Women's Crisis Support Centre Ipswich

We have supported the Women’s Crisis Support Service Inc. (WCSSI) in Ipswich since 2022. We have built a cubby house for the kids at the shelter, renovated the playground area with the help of a Rotary district grant and together with other clubs we provide hampers for the families at mother’s day and little gifts at Christmas. We have supported the mobile support service by providing clothing for homeless clients and useful utilities.

The WCSSI focusses on three main services:

  • Shelter: Providing an escape from domestic and family violence with safe, private & supported accommodation and help to start a new life helped by staff every day.

  • Mobile Support Service: The Domestic and Family Violence Mobile Support Program is a community-based service that offers case-managed assistance directly to individuals in their own environments.

  • The Pink Door: The Pink Door is a space where women uplift, inspire and support one another. The mission is to create a safe and inclusive space where women from all walks of life can come together to build their knowledge, discuss their experiences, share insights, and build a network of support. .

We're Changing Lives - One Solar Light at a Time

SolarBuddy is an Australian charity based in Brisbane, whose goals are gifting solar devices to children living in extreme energy poverty, and educating people to be agents of change to end such poverty.

Kenmore Rotary has been involved with the SolarBuddy programme for 10 years, partnering with local primary schools to provide JuniorBuddy solar LED lights to children in remote villages. The lights are delivered to our schools in kit form, and the children, in year 5 or 6, assemble them, guided by their teachers and Rotarians. The children also write a short letter to the recipient of the light.

Containers for Change Program

We have partnered with a number of businesses and not-for-profit organisations to collect recyclable drink containers. Funds raised will be reinvested in the community.
The program was launched in November 2018 and has been amazingly successful - thank you to the partners and community for your support and success.

Since starting this project in November 2018 Kenmore Rotary and Partners saved in excess of 768,000 containers from landfill.

Australia Day Ceremony

For over 20 years Kenmore Rotary hosted the local Citizenship Ceremony on Australia Day. Rotarians welcome soon to be Australians Citizens and their families as well as officiating officers. New Citizens receive Rotary Congratulators Certificates in addition to their Australian Citizenship Certificates. Morning tea is provided by Kenmore Rotary at the conclusion of the Ceremony.

Rotary thanks the BCC Ward Office for their financial assistance.

Rotary Youth Driver Awareness

RYDA features a highly engaging and memorable one-day workshop which front-loads students’ understanding of road safety. The workshop sessions are designed to be held in small classroom sized groups (approximately 25 students) and are led by a team of trained facilitators including Police, driving instructors and other community sector specialists.

Kenmore Rotary has been providing volunteers and financial assistance to run the RYDA workshop for Year 11 students at Kenmore High for over 10 years.

Christmas Raffle

This is our major fund raiser every November and December. Funds are allocated to the various youth projects supported by the Club, including programs at Kenmore State High School as well as sponsorships of local students to participate in Rotary programs. Every member of Kenmore Rotary is involved selling raffle tickets at Kenmore Village and Kenmore Plaza on weekends. It's a lot of fun and fellowship.
