President's Message

A heartfelt thank you to our special guests who joined us at our recent meeting to provide an update on how we are working together to combat domestic and family violence. Guests included Michelle Royes from DVConnect, Carolyn Young from Toowong Rotary, and Cathy Johns from the Women’s Crisis Support Service Inc. (WCSSI) at Ipswich. It was great to hear Cathy’s suggestions for potential social enterprises to support the Ipswich women’s shelter.  Projects to address the scourge of domestic violence are a key focus of our club and it was great to see that the commitment of our Club is as strong as ever.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to support the Kenmore Rotary Cash for Christmas Raffle!  Our first weekend is now behind us and we are optimistic that momentum will build in the coming weeks. There are still 12 shifts available to help sell raffle tickets, so please log into Club Runner and sign up to help fill these spots. Your support is essential to making this major fundraiser a success! Please note Members Commitments are detailed at the footer of this KOG. (Ed)

We are delighted to welcome our newest member, June Riley, to the Kenmore Rotary family. June brings a wealth of experience in primary education, and we are excited to see the impact she will have within our club and the community.

A big thank you to all who participated in the Brookfield/Kenmore Rotary Trivia Night at Brookfield State School last weekend! It was a night of fun and friendly competition.  Kenmore Rotary’s share of the proceeds will be donated to domestic violence prevention projects.  A big thank you to David Kearney and his merry band of Kenmore Rotarians who helped to organise the event and ensure it was a success.

Once again, a big thank you to all members for your ongoing support of our growing club!

Yours in Rotary,

Dave

In the last year, 8000 women and 29 men were placed into shelters. Domestic Violence shelters are usually at capacity and DV Connect are now using Motels.

With the current housing crisis, there has been an increase in the number of DV problems.

After the Second World War, the Australian Government agreed to the United Kingdom's proposal that Armistice Day be renamed Remembrance Day to commemorate those who were killed in both World Wars. Today the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on Remembrance Day.
