I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our recent meeting with Sue Mulraney (District Governor). The meeting offered us a useful opportunity to connect with the broader goals of Rotary and gain some perspective on how our efforts fit into the larger picture. We appreciated hearing her updates and thoughts, and it was a good chance to showcase our own club’s accomplishments and discuss future directions. It was also an opportunity for our club to connect with the neighbouring Rotary Club of Brookfield.

I also wanted to highlight the attendance of students from Our Lady of the Rosary School at our meeting. Their presence was a valuable part of our gathering, as it gave them firsthand insight into how a Rotary club operates and the impact of our community service. Engaging with these young minds is an investment in the future of Rotary and the broader community.

Looking ahead, it’s crucial that we all actively participate in our club’s projects and initiatives. Our collective strength and success depend heavily on the involvement of each member. Whether you can contribute time, ideas, or effort, every bit of help makes a difference. We have several upcoming projects and activities that will benefit greatly from additional support and participation. If you’re unsure how you can contribute please make contact with any members of the Board. By putting your hand up to help, you not only support our club’s mission but also enrich your own experience as a member. Let’s continue to work together to achieve our goals and make a positive impact in our community.

Toast : Mary Kearney (International Service Director) proposed a toast to the Rotary Club of Cranbrook Sunrise in British Columbia, Canada. Cranbrook s a town of 20,000 and has 2 Rotary clubs.

Ian Nave's birthday during August was noted.

President Dave :

Dave welcomed District Governor Sue Mulraney and her partner John. He also gave a warm welcome to the students of OLR who were visiting to observe our meeting as part of their Rotary Junior Community Award projects. Dave acknowledged the representatives of RC Brookfield - President Giles Tilley, Brian Bower, Peter Collins and Libby Collins.
Dave and Giles have had talks about how the two clubs can support each other this year in respective activities.
Gave a "shout out" to Claylia Ward for the gusto with which she has taken to her role as Club Service Director.

Report on activity of the District Grants Committee.

The committee has had $79,000 to award to the club applications to date.

A joint application by Toowong, Paddington and Kenmore clubs for DV support initiatives was successful. The range of projects submitted was truly amazing.

The District Tree Planting day will be 27th April 2025. The BCC has budgeted to supply 3,000 trees for Rotarians to plant.

Margaret de Wit :

Margaret read a letter received from the Executive Principal of Kenmore High, Paul Robertson, who thanked our members Ken Gilbert, Ken Ryan, Martin Grabert and Michael Fitzgerald for all their work in developing the school leaders. He also thanked the Kenmore club and in particular Ross Thomas for our sponsorship of Jack Gorman in his successful quest for the $5,000 scholarship from the Fellowship of Flying Rotarians.

Ross Thomas :

Former member Brian Becconsall has presented the club with the "Didgeridoo" which has been in his care along with 4 bags of archival material relating to the club's history. There is a need for a club historian/ archivist.

Chair Margaret introduced Sue by giving a summary of her background in South Australia and her time in Rotary serving the Rotary Club of Loganholme and the District in many roles.

Sue delivered her message to the club and made these points :-

Successful clubs set goals.
Encouraged us to visit "Rotary Club Central" web site.
A Rotary Action Plan aligns with club goals.
Identify leaders in our communities and reach out.
Enhance participant engagement.
Commended Rotary leadership courses that are available.
Increase our ability to adapt to changing times.
Many clubs are now supporting DV victims. "Stop it at the Start" campaign.
The District Conference will be held in Toowoomba at the Empire Theatre 28-30 March 2025
Share the Magic of Rotary. Serve with dedication and compassion.
Commended our clubs for our great recent works, our youth projects etc.

John Mulraney issued forms for Polioplus Society Commitment. Encouraged all members to commit to a $100 donation yearly

DG Sue presented a certificate to David Kearney which recognizes his 35 years of dedicated service.

Margaret de Wit moved a vote of thanks to the District Governor for her visit and her address.

Rotary projects around the globe

Belize

The Rotaract Club of Belize City is renovating a rural school and a Rotary club-sponsored park as part of its youth-focused agenda. In April, club members met at the Hattieville Government Preschool to paint restrooms and complete other beautification work. A later phase will include new toilets. “We’ve been able to replace chalkboards in 10 classrooms with whiteboards and to donate a printer and other school and hygiene materials,” says Kristoff Nicholson, immediate past president. The club partnered with a telecom provider and raffled off smartphones to help pay for the project. It also received a District 4250 grant of $1,000. In March, club members replaced basketball and goal nets and painted benches and a playset at Love Park in Balama, another element of the project, Nicholson says.
